HELP! my car won't crank.

Hi, I have a 93 camry v6 xle. I recently installed hid's (real hid kit) that I had as an extra kit and it worked fine for few weeks. but all of a sudden, the light start to turn off by itself while driving sometimes. so I took the hid's kit out and re-installed the stock low beam bulbs. There were positive and negative wires connected directly to the battery but I just removed the 10mm nuts to remove them. Now the problem is, when I tried to start the car, the car didn't crank, it just made a click sound from passenger side engine bay everytime I turned the key. also the power door lock went crazy, they kept locking by itself. I thought it was my battery cuz it was old, so I bought a new battery and tried it again, but still the car doesn't crank.

Does anyone know what problem is? and how I diagnose the problem?

Thanks in advance.

thx for a reply, bigbird.

I checked a fuse that says 'starter' and some other fuses inside the fuse box and they were okay, are there any other fuses or relays I have to check?

Do the headlights work?

Check 40A Main fuse, 40A AM1 Fuse, starter relay.

Find the starter solenoid. There should a small wire going to it, perhaps Black/Red. Apply 12V power to the terminal the wire is attached to and determine if the engine cranks over. If so the problem is the starter circuit.

Also check the battery cables and terminals for damage or corrosion.

yea the headlights n everything else except door locks work. when i put my key into the keyhole to open the door, power locks start to go crazy n keep locking doors until i get out of the car. plus the main door lock switch doesnt work anymore..

where is the starter in v6 model? im not familiar with electrial stuff but i have a friend who knows a little.

are the fuse n starter the only possibilities that might cuz the car doesn't crank?

btw, thx for your reply, toyomoho.

I had a loose wire to my negative terminal yesterday, probably from the cold weather but yeah it made a click sound. Does your time clock reset everytime you try to start the car?

Power to the starter solenoid comes directly from the battery, check the cable.

Do individual door lock switches work?

sounds like a bad starter to me.. take out your starter, take it to autozone, and have them test it

I just tried individual door lock switches. nope they keep locking themselves every time I unlock them..

thank you very much for your replies guys, I will try to look for the starter tomr. I hope it doesn't cost too much to fix or replace it if it is the problem. Does anyone know how to take the starter out?

Check the door switches and wiring between the drivers door and chassis for damage.

Either can cause strange lock operation.

I took out the starter and brought it to autozone to test it. The result was a pass, the guy also said if the starter passes that means the starter solenoid should be good too. He told me to check all the wires and connections.

I checked to make sure all the connections are good and the car still doesn't crank. I didn't touch any wires when I uninstalled the hid's so I don't know what went wrong. I also checked all the fuses and they are good.
