Idle Speed Control Valve 92 Camry

Hi, I'm new to this forum...first let me say I love my 92 Camry, bought
it second-hand in 98 (from a little-old-lady - no kidding) and it has been without a doubt the best purchase I have ever made in my life...fantastic to drive, reliable, I've kept it undercoated every year and so it's still in mint condition...got 297,000 kms on her, and I don't want to give her up yet.....
but...
The idle is too low when hot....and much as I love this car, I don't want to plug in a new part (Toyota told me it is $605.50 plus the $6 gasket).
Can these valves be cleaned? I've cleaned the throttle body before but not this valve - is there a particular way to clean them...
also, can anyone tell me if they are adjustable...thanks.....nikko

Yes it can be cleaned and has been discussed many times on TN. Suggest a TN search to find post.

Idle speed is not adjustable but controlled by the computer.

If required you should be able to find a cheaper aftermarket valve.

Thanks for the response, I did find some posts regarding this and will check again for more information. This is the second idle speed control valve we got, this one being obtained from the wreckers... but they had quite a problem finding one. I didn't know if you could
use an aftermarket valve but I'll certainly investigate that as well.

isn't there a pick and pull in hamilton? if they don't have it, go to standard auto in scarborough or dom's auto wreckers in oshawa (quite a drive for you, i know), but they have plenty of camrys in their pick and pulls and you'll find an iac on one of those for sure

also, you can change your base idle speed by using a screw on your throttlebody- it's right above the butterfly and you can just turn that so that it forces your idle higher at all times by physically keeping the TB plate open a slight bit more. I had to do this after I installed my supercharger and my iac couldn't compensate fast enough for the additional heat as well as the additional load on the engine from running the blower belt

N o pick and pull around here as far as I know....and you wouldn't believe the problem we had getting an iac at the local wreckers. Too much to go into here, but it was a nightmare. Many said they had it, but when we actually went to get it they didn't, or it was missing a part, or...they wouldn't let us look and the guy looking had no idea what he was looking for...it was always something. Managed to find one after driving around for hours, and put it on, but wasn't much better than the original. Hate expending that kind of work for nothing. Maybe I'll see if Standard Auto will send things out...thanks for the suggestion, also your other suggestion was a good one (changing base idle speed), I may do that too - thanks
