3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am going to be doing the auto to manual conversion.
I know, from doing searches that the manual axles are different to the auto axles for the gen3s. I'm just wondering if this was the case for the gen4s too.
And do I need to change the wiring loom if I find a manual ecu.
Oh btw has anyone done a tranny swap on the gen4s?
the gen 4 swap is identical to the gen3 swap- we are using the e153 (most of us anyway) which is from the gen4/solara so long story short, NO the automatic axles don't even come close to fitting.
and if get a manual ecu no, you don't need to change your wiring harness. apparently it plugs right in.

Pitty gen4 manual camrys are rare here, wreckers never see them . Might have to see if our gen5 v6 5sp have the same part numbers as there are more of those on the roads here. I know they used the e153s.
Also look for a manual trans donor 's lower left motor mount that sits on the subframe in the front wheel well.
that's the tranny mount with an extra plate that only the manual tranny has, and yes...you'll need that too, but most trannys don't come with it and you'll most likely have to get it yourself. you can find it in a pick and pull or a dealership if your tranny doesnt' have it.

and nope, both are different. the v6 axles are also literally twice as big as the 4banger ones...thus their ability to handle a ridiculous amount of power
