3rd Generation

When starting the car does it try to turn over or does it make a clicking sound when you turn the key.

In order for people to help, you need to be specific about what the car is doing when it doesn't start. Does the starter crank (also called turning over) the engine? If not, do you hear any sounds? Has anything been done to the car lately? How many miles are on the car now? Can you provide any maintenance history?

Help us so that we may help you.

Mike

Its cranks. I figure its either going to be a fuel issue or a spark issue.

my advise is to check you is

1 check your sparks and wires
2 coil packs if your car have any?
3 if cranks, which is your case, check battery and alternator

try jumping it. to see if it starts up. if it does then car idles then dies then its the alternator. usually its the alternator worn out or the battery, not sending enough spark through your car which causes everything to fail. you take it off and take it to autozone or another auto shop to test it for you for free.

You need to start troubleshooting by testing for spark and fuel.

The safest way to check for spark is to buy a spark plug tester for a few dollars at an auto parts store. You insert a spark plug in it along with the spark plug wire still attached to the coil pack and ground it, Then have someone crank the engine while you look for a nice blue spark; blue not orange. Orange indicates a weak spark.

A simple test to see if the car is getting fuel is to remove the large rubber tube leading to the throttle body. Now spray some O2 safe carb cleaner in there. Now reinstall the tube and crank the engine. It probably won't start, but it should sputter a bit on the carb cleaner if lack of fuel is the problem.

Perform these simple tests and report the results back here and we can give you some direction on further testing.

Mike

PS: You still haven't said how many miles are on this car or what if any recent maintenance has been done to it. What engine; I4 or V6?
