Front door lock mechanism

I have a 92 Camry with a driver's door problem - it is shut and locked and I can't get it open. It is not frozen, key turns in lock, power door switch tries to unlock the door but doesn't. I have somewhat butchered the door panel trying to get it off. I can get my hand inside the door, but I can't figure what I need to do to manually unlock the door. Anybody run into this before?

Hey Bert

Guess what? same problem on my 95. Been looking in the faqs and didn't see an answer to problem. Did you finally figure out how to fix issue? Is it posted somewhere that I've missed?
Thanx man.

Ctoy, you need to remove the entire door panel and look around inside. It's probably just a bad regulator.

Hey thanks Lynch and Soul - Yeah the drivers door is locked shut but all the other doors respond and open. The drivers door lock responds but both the interior and exterior handles feel as if they're not connected to any linkage - compared w/all the other doors so I think I need to get inside the door panel to wiggle some linkage and open the latch........ except the door is closed n stuck........ I did see a good post on removing the panel but I was wondering if anyone else was able to get in w/out doing damage.
Thanks again

It's going to be near impossible to get inside of the door without doing any damage. 92-96 camry right? Try removing the trim around the door handle and moving the linkages around. One for the lock and another for the door handle. If a linkage came undone, that's not good.... I'd then consider tear the whole panel apart and then getting a matching replacement in the junk yard.

Yeah I think you're right but I'm gonna give the door handle a shot 1st before I start ripping and tearing.

Hi,

I am having a similar problem, my Camry 2001 door won't open. I've ripped the door trim, but still unable to open it. How do you open the door?

TIA

There's a rod about 4 inches long. It's gold and runs up and down. Goes right to the door handle. You might not be able to see it well.

Push down on it.
