I bought my 98 camry back in august and since then ive had to clean the negative battery terminal becuase of corrosion. the positive gets some corrosion but nothing like the negative one. ive cleaned them both about 3 times and it keeps coming back, ive tried new terminals ive checked the ground and it looks good. any idea on how to stop this?

anyway to fix this without buying a new battery? will it matter if i just keep cleaning it instead of getting a new one?

Personal experience - nothing
Mine's been corroding since I bought it, and the prev owned mentioned it has been doing it for at least a couple years before that. So 4 years later, it still starts first try even when it's -40 outside.

Aside from cleaning it, you could try the little felt thing-a-mabobbers. I wouldn't expect miracles but they're certainly cheap. I guess you could probably try to use some fiberglass resin around the terminals too?

May want to double check that it's alright to do though to the battery before attempting it. I'm no chemist so I won't pretend to make assumptions that there's no chemical reaction consequences of the resin on a battery.

Always the neg. terminal. Positive probably hasn't been disconnected since I've had it
