USA Transmission jerks from P to D

Hi... long time reader first time poster...

I have a 1993 Camry XLE with 175,000 mile. I just had the tranny replaced with an 85,000 tranny. When I shift from P to D the tranny jerks into Drive. This happens anytime I put it in D. It has no problem shifting thru the rest of the gears. Can anyone tell me if there is an adjustment that may smooth out the jerk. Tranny fluid is topped off.

You could try adjusting the kick-down cable. Search the free mod series in the general camry forum. One will have something about tighter or quicker shifts, but the comprise is a jerk/strong shift when moving the shifer.

Do you get a harsh 1-2 shift, or is it just shifting out of P into D at standstill?
If you have a harsh 1-2 shift also, then I'd say it is probably the throttle pressure cable that is misadjusted or broken/seized from the trans job.

If you don't have a 1-2 harsh shift, then it is probably something inside the tranny such as a bad accumulator, valve body, or something else. From what I understand, to reduce shift shock when going from P to D, the trans goes briefly into 2nd gear first, then into 1st, or something like that.

thanks... it only does it from a stand still and going P to D. Everything else is A.. OK, shifts smoothly otherwise. I did notice if I go in reverse for a little then Stop... put it into P then go to D it shifts a whole lot smoother without a jerk.
