Gas tank flush?

I somehow got water in my gas tank back in aug 08 ruined the fuel pump/filter the mech. said you should replace the filter in 10k , well waited too long. It won't run took filter off rust in the line mix with the gas saw it once the spilled gas evaporated, musta it clogged it up. Any thoughts on whats best step. replace tank or just flush, put new filter on keep on rolling? etc...

How much rust?

The tank comes out pretty easy. Once out flush the tank to get the rust out. There are a variety of ways to do this, a Google search will turn up many hits such as the one below.

If too much rust a new after market fuel tank is around $200.

If you think rust made its way past the tank filter change out the can filter in the engine compartment.

I took the filter off and rust was in it, i put a clear glass one inline too and will leave it on for a while so I can see whats coming thru the line. it was flowing pretty clean so I am going to just watch it for a while. Its running!
