Spark Plug Wire cap stuck

Hey guys,

Fairly new to tinkering with Toyotas but my daughters Camry 98 2.2, died.
I'm trying to replace the timing belt (lots of good how-to threads here). But my question...the #1 spark plug wire cap is stuck inside. I pulled the wire out and the rubber cap at the end of the long hard plastic wire is stuck. I looked inside and there it is - at the bottom with the spark plug.

How do it out? I've tried to push the plug wire back in and pull it out but no luck. And my pliers can't grab the rubber cap. Any thought? (I'm thinking glue the end of the hard plastic wire and push it back in and hope it attaches to the cap).

Thanks

What he said works, but you might consider replacing the plug wires though.

When you install the new plugs, coat the top of the plug and insulator with a small amount of of dielectric grease.

Also put a smear of anti-seize on the threads.

Those two PM tricks will make future plug replacement a snap.

Caveat: unless you use bosch wires. They are absolutely TERRIBLE for Toyotas. My first 2 wire sets were Bosch, the second of which were freebies from the store I bought the first from, since they had 1 that got stuck. The second set had 2 caps which got stuck.

The easiest way I found to get 'em out is to cut a hanger around the bend then file the edge down so it's not sharp. You should have about a 45 degree / 1" hook on it, it worked pretty well for me to fish the caps out.

Stick with NGK/Denso plugs/wires though.

is the bottom end of the spark plug wire, stuck on top of the spark plug. If this is teh case, this happened to me, when i was changing my spark plugs adn wires the other day. I was nearly completely when i pulled out cylinder's 4 wires, the metal cap inside the wire stayied stuck on the spark plug itself. What i used was a long needle nose scissor type thing. I have no idea whats it actually called but it seems to work fine, i just had to have it a the right place, to pull the small metal piece off the spark plug. Pleas elt em know if this helps and if you need a picture of the tool i used i can put on up if necessary

Thanks for all the suggestion. I ended up going to the hardware store and picking up a set of picks. The hooked pick did the trick! Having the right tools makes all the difference since I was able to extract it in no time.

Now I'm just waiting for a few more tools I order to be able to get the crank pulley off (and have an excuse to buy "needed" tools...at least that is what I told my wife.)

My orginal wire from toyota did that too. It left all the rust in one of the hole. I have to clean it very carefully...
