Canada 94 Camry No Start

This problem happens about once a week. I turn the key and nothing...all the dash lights come on etc. Try to start in neutral..nothing. I move the shifter back & forth..try to start, again nothing. After a combination of: taking key in & out, moving the shifter..the car starts like there wasn't a problem. Any ideas...Thanx to all!

could be the ignition switch, starter solenoid, or just a badly corroded starter wire. I would check all the starter connections first. If you see corrosion make sure you unplug your battery cables or you will shock yourself if you make ground with the hot wire. Clean the connections with some contact cleaner and steel wool. Then check to see if you still have the problem. My guess is that your ignition switch is worn out and working properly when you hold your mouth right.

Maybe your neutral safety switch? Check and adjust if necessary.

Do a search mate, there's bound to be at least one.

To test for defective starter solenoid contacts, try this simple test the next time it doesn't start. Have someone else hold the key in the start position, while you go under the hood and tap the starter's solenoid with a wrench or small hammer. If the starter now turns, you have identified the worn starter solenoid contacts problem. Then do a search for "starter contacts" on this forum for it's causes and cures.
