Question Headlights ON Buzzer????

95 Camry DX 3/95 build.

This car does not warn me when I remove the ignition key to exit the car AND HAVE FORGOTTEN TO TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS. Thus returning to a dead battery.

I do get a chime if I open the door with the ingnition key not removed.

But NO warning if the lights are left on when the key is removed.

Is this long accepted standard industry feature missing in this camry, or do I have a inoperative headlight buzzer module?

I don't think the car has that feature, but I have a 96, and the lights turn off automatically when you open the door.

I thought the headlight warning chime and the intermittent windshield wiper became "standard" equipment... several decades ago!

Can someone with a 1995 Camry wiring diagram tell me where this door/headlight relay might be located?

Thanks in advance for everyone's reply and effort in resolving my situation.

EDIT: Never mind, I just reread the OP and found that my post wouldn't be helpful

yea, if the headlights are left on they turn off automatically when the door is opened, making a warning pointless. It must not be working on your car. Can't think of why.

i have the same problem as you and i have figured out what the cause of the problem is at least for me and it is that the door sensor doesnt work so the car doesnt know the door is open so the light doesnt turn off.. but does anyone know how to fix the door open sensor....... and for some reason this only happens when the temperature outside is less then 40...weird

That's a classic, the dome light door switch is wired to this system. These switch always go bad one day or another thus working intermittently. I believe there is a sticky on how to repair them.

But I remember my old DX. When I was late for work one cloud covered day(reason my lights were on, unoticed) I got out of the car so fast that the switch never got to close the lights... killing my battery!

if its the switch itself, grabbing one from the junkyard is probably the easiest fix. If its the door switch, your dome light wouldn't turn on when you opened the door either though.

Unless you have some stuff to pick up in the car, truth is, when you get out of the car, you won't even notice the dome didn't go on.
