5sfe short shifter

alright, i've been doing some research on short shifter for the gen 3 camry (i've got a 1992 4 cyl. 5 speed) and found a few different threads on here with different options.

i saw the twm for a celica, but i didn't know which one would fit my car, the 90-91 or 92-93? there's also the trd, which sounds like it needs some pieces from a gen 4 camry or gen 1 solara to work in my car. or there's the ol "bust out the hacksaw" method and chop a few inches off the shifter, but i really don't wanna go that route.

i put up a poll for people who have done any of these options caues i wanted to find out feedback on which was the best. thanks for the help!

If you use the hacksaw and just chop the top off, that does NOTHING to change the actual shift points. All you are making it is a shortER shifter, not a short shifter since you are NOT changing the pivot point, just the stalk length. From what I saw with the TWM piece before, it's not a short shifter, it's just a better quality built that has the same pivot point as the stock shifter. The only SS is the TRD, but you will need the shifter base from a Gen4 (possibly Gen5) or Gen1 Solara that needs to be hacked up to make it fit.

Andyman: the TWM short shifter to use would be from the Corolla (2003+) application. Originally I prototyped the Celica shifter with my Gen3 for TWM, but like Luc said, the pivot point really didnt change except for the fact that it was shorter and had toyota threading on it. The new one that Ive prototyped (and Element sold quite a few of) is a true short shifter for the Gen3, and also lowers the knob itself quite a bit. Its a perfect fit, and will work with the stock Gen3 shifter base, as well as the Gen4 shifter base for Gen4 guys. If you wanna get in touch with our sponsor who sells them, send a PM to user "ElementAutoworks". TWM is getting their new supply of those specific shifters next week, so everyone thats been waiting for theirs should be getting their backorders shipped out next week.
