3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi, I have a '00 camry v6 with a 5 speed manuel. I got my headers custom-made, did a catless exhaust system with 2.5" pipes, and got me a short ram intake...
Now I'm looking for more NA power. I saw a couple of things on www.jetchip.com, the first one is the JET V-Force Plus Performance Module, which I couldn't find any dyno sheets anywhere, I don't know if it really increases HP or not. The other then is the "import your ecu so that can put a chip in it" option, which makes sense in terms of producing power, and they got some dyno sheets that were drawn by hand, and most of the cars got a 11whp increase whcih I find hard to believe...
So did anyone try any of these things?
I want dyno figures, not "my friend said...etc".
that looks like a simple A/F controller. one major problem with out ECU is it will eventually override any piggy back tuning system...resulting in having to retune. i know nothing about that thing cept a handfull of guys with stangs use them. but thoes are tuner friendly. even when tuned i couldnt imagine any more the the say 10hp and id jsut used an safcII or somthing more involved if ya want more then just A/F tuning.
i see they offer a few things, but things like the V-Force would be surpressed by the factory ECU and if you sent away your ECU, if ya wanted to change anything later, youd have to send it away all over again. so my advice would be to just get an SAFCII or standalone(depending on how far into tuning ya wanna go) and do more engine work before tuning. things like P&P, valve job, cams, TB ect.

thanks for your reply
ok i get the picture, maybe i'll go with the safc neo (better then safc II)...
but what about cams? I couldn't find any!
there are no off the shelf cams for the 1mz unfortunately
but also, word has it that just cams on our car won't do much.
What WOULD help though, is if you find a tuning device- i.e. emanage that will let you raise your redline...by simply allowing our engine to rev to 7K, you could pick up some decent power for sure...

wouldnt ya want to change the cams at least a little for the extra head flow though? im just goin off past experiances with other vehicles. and yeah i didnt even think about raising the redline. wouldnt mind doin that myself.

yes...well, of course it will help...but enough to justify that kind of money? probably not. if our cars had some sort of cam adjustment or vtec or lift tech, then quite def...those types of engines pick up quite a bit of power from simple cams....same with bigger engines (I KNOW that you're thinking v8s lol) that will benefit greatly from any exhaust or intake mod

lotsa' question marks here
i think i'll go back to searching for a TRD supercharger
thanks guys
that or turbo is a better option anyway you slice it when you consider all the variables.

i know what ya mean. the more displacement the more breather mods make a differance. V8 or not.
they have some great JPP header & Ypipe knockoffs on ebay. youll have to custom fab everything from there. right there is the only real reason to go with the SC over the turbo, simplicity of install.
i know...any reason the JPP ones wouldnt work? or would there be so much work to do on them that it would be batter to do 100% custom manifolds or Ypipe? im figuring that it would be better to start with upgraded stuff and fab from there.
hmmm....I guess I should take that back...the manifolds would work for a single turbo setup...just a new y-pipe/collector pipe would need to be fabbed. but for a tt setup, new everything would need to be made up.
makes things a lot easier then eh? lol
