Need help on DRUMS for a 1997 CAMRY

I was wondering if changing out the drums for the camry to be difficult? More so, how much would the drum set cost? I plan on grabbing some OEM DRUMS set and having them changed out.

Car has about 70K on it? Front brake pads/rotors were done, but would like the rear to be changed out.

Any ideas?

changing out drums and brake shoes are easy. the drum just slides off, and the shoes are held in place by 3 springs and the parking brake cable. if i recall correctly, each drum from napa was about $40-50 and the set of shoes was about $40.

rear drum brakes wear much slower than front disks, so dont assume they need to be changed because the fronts are worn. take a look before you buy the parts.

A Toyota Dealership in Ny wanted $150 for one drum! I would recommend going NAPA but it turns like a rust orange.

what kind of noise? like a metal on metal noise? if so, it might just be from the dust shield scraping the drum. mine use to do that as the weather warmed up and as the (OEM) drums drums started to rust more and more.

That's why I am wanting to get it fixed.

When I order, do I just tell them DRUM SET?

I just wanna be knowledgable before heading to the dealer. It sounds like there's some squeek, but the front were done and w/ OEM pads. So I am worried a tad. The ebrake could need an adjustment too.

Thanks

tell them you want to order brake drums and shoes for the car (brake pads are used on disc brakes, brake shoes are used on drum brakes). anytime drum brakes are replaced, the parking brake will have to be adjusted as they pull the shoes to brake the wheel. as an added FYI - the camry drum brakes are considered "self adjusting" because using the parking brake actually adjusts the rear brakes automatically. last time i replaced my shoes and drums, i didnt pre-adjust the brakes because i was curious to see how many times i had to pull the parking brake handle to finish adjusting (until there is resistance). i needed to pull the lever about 20 times.

Doubt very much you will need new drums at 70k, have you actually have them off and measure them? Brake dust inside the drum can sometimes cause scrapping type noise especially noticeable at low speed.
