Foam behind air dash vents

Notice when i turned the air on today there are a few loose square charcoal colored foam pieces in the vents and am wondering why its there, is it the filter for the air? if so where can i locate it?

There are foam insulators around the vents and also on the ducts below the steering wheel. Recently had mine apart to remove debris from the blower motor and ducts (damn mice ). The foam is just worn out and falling apart. Nothing major. Just pull it out with a pair of tweezers and forget about it.

Not replacing it wouldn't hurt it later? also again about the air is there really no air filter between the outside air going in the car?

the gen3/3.5 did not have a cabin air filter.

Its not going to hurt anything. You will still get good airflow. Its also a good idea to check your blower for any debris. The foam you mentioned could have been brought in by mice. My blower had a horrible vibration until I cleaned it out.

where is/ how do i get to the blower? kinda makes a sound like it needs lubing.

Passenger side under the glove box. Un-snap the plastic guard. There are 3 bolts that hold the blower onto the housing. 8mm or 10mm I forget which size. Remove the power plug and remove the bolts. It will just drop right out.
