3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so like a woman, i have changed my mind again. decided to keep the camry and i will still be getting me another vehicle, more than likely a truck or suv for college. not the most practical, but you gotta be a little bit baller, and it ices and snows like shit here anyway, so the 4x4 will be nice.
so the camry will be a project car for me to work on and do shit to. more than likely i wont be starting any projects until im done with law school. got that special kinda love for it, ya know
so if many of you like bigbird, asg, eyeball, eye8pussies, tony the tiger, and many of you others would kindly post some pics and info of the mods you've done, big and small, expensive and cheap, that would be greatly appreciated. looking for some ideas.
and im too tired to figure out which thread this actually goes in, so please move it for me.
what project you decide to make depends on what you have now, its condition and what you want out of it. you have several options to work with but since your giving yourself so much time do your reaserch here. if your goin to law school then when your out im sure ull be able to afford alot mroe the the camry can provide as far as performance. not saying you should drop the idea but keep that in mind. i would never suggest heavily modding these cars unless you really love it and are like me and want to make somthing special of a car that is just the oppisite...not special. and it helps to have a good sense of humor about it too.
this is what i have to start with. im not looking to make it fast, just look really nice like hamsterman's camry. dont need 500 hp like tony the tiger. i would get way too carried away with it. love my car though. thats why im not getting rid of it until it blows.
power, not really looking for, but suspension is a definate. as soon as my struts go, then its onto coilovers, trd sway bar, and MAYBE custom parts like end links and what not.
then rims, 3.5 bumper and lip, skirts, rear bumper, paint prolly mercedes metallic black or spectra mica blue. spoiler delete, projectors, redo the interior in leather and suede.
only thing performance wise will be a 5spd swap and intake and exhaust. performance will be for the truck.
got a big list to make it look like i want. thats why im gauging ideas right now. and looking at other's rides for ideas.
Best bang for your buck performance wise is an MT swap.
After that I'd go for intake, exhaust, timing advance, cams, header, and fuel management. All of that will gain you some decent power with your manual setup.
Upgraded brakes and tires/rims would be nice for a good and mandatory upgrade soon after you've covered performance.
Other than that, style-wise it is way out in the open and up to you totally!
Getting coilovers is a definite MUST and from there I think you could really get creative. Good luck man!
I'm thinking, as far as looks go, the gen 3.5 bumper and rmm lip, erebuni style skirts and bumper, spectra mica blue paint, spoiler delete, custom black suede and leather interior, 18in enkei rs6 or 5zigen gn rims.
and of course a nice sound system.
and the only performance thing is a v6 swap with a manual tranny, intake and exhaust, ignition, and that'll be it. boosting it just isn't something I'm looking to do. I'll be fine with 200hp.
yeah just made that page and apparently i have to wait for it to be reviewed or some shit before it is public. as far as pics the only thing i think is worth posting would be the cheap junkyard mods ive done. things like foglights and the front lip. if ya want more pics you can search the topic or ill PM them to ya. you can actually see them a little in my sig.
okay, so a little update. a friend of my parents has a friend that has a camry like mine, i think he said a 1993. same color, sedan, exterior and interior are perfect he said. the battery in it caught on fire so they yanked the motor out of it but it was a 5sfe like mine. he said that i could probably buy it off the guy that had it for $200.
my car needs new quarter panel patches around both rear wheel wells and tail lights, a new rear and front bumper, new right fender, trunk lid is scratched to shit. and lots of interior burns, cracks, holes, breaks and other shit.
so what would be easier, swapping the engine and harness when i have some experience in that, or cutting patches out of the quarter panels and patching those when i have no experience in that? the other body work im good with. i know this is more for me to decide, but which is easier for you all?
Engine swap definitely. Project car = mint body, junk drivetrain, parts car = runs/drives perfect, rest junk. Always, unless you want to waste money cuz engines are cheap/easy swaps, bodywork/paint costs a serious stack.
well ive decided to swap the engine. eventually ill do a v6 swap, but not until after college. cuz thats an entirely new harness. so ill just use the existing harness and swap over the engine. drop the subframe and switch them out.
