Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Can I have some advice on an oil level issue? Every time I go into Wal-Mart and have my oil and filter changed, when I check the oil level, it's about one inch over the "F" line on the dipstick. Mind you, this has happened on several occasions before including 4 yrs ago when I first bought the car( 98 Camry 2.2L) and it was about an inch over. I've never had any problems as far as the performance of the car, etc. Question is, should I be concerned?
I am not an expert if the oil over could damage your engine or not..NOT sure~~ .but I know from the Toyota manual recommend you keep the oil level either on the mark F (full) or not over. someone can comments if it would damage the engine if you prolong oil over the F mark on the oil stick.
the performance wouldn't make a different if you're over or not..but i would concert for your engine life time of the car
if your oil is over the mark F (a little bit increment)..it's ok..but if you have too much, i would concert.
in the past, i have my oil changed at different shop..they did the same thing, fill over the F mark... I hate it...I finally learn to do my oil changed myself...and do it right and keep my engine prolong the life of the engine

1st off, stop being an idiot, and do not go there for an oil change.
2nd, if there is that much oil in there, and you keep driving it, it can blow out seals. Loosen the oil drain plug and let some oil out untill it is at the F line. It is was 1/4 inch over, I;d say fine. But not 1inch.
Again, stop goign there.

It does affect the engine since having the oil over the F mark can cause leaks in the engine, or clog the cat. This is due to the fact that with the oil level over recomend (F mark), when the engine warm up the oil wont have room to expand causing leaks.

I am not an expert about too much oil damaging an engine, I'm just not sure. However, the Toyota manual recommends the oil be kept near or on the full mark, but not over. Maybe someone can confirm if there is any potential for engine damage if the oil level remains too high for a porlonged period of time.
Excess oil will not make any difference in performance, but I would be concerned about engine life.
If the oil is just a bit over the full mark, it's ok. However, if it's too far over, I would be concerned.

How's that? LOL

Sorry for the confusion that I have had caused. Its 3 A.M. when I posted the message...BED TIME!!!..hihihihihi....The time stamp is wrong on the previous message..
Overfilling the oil by that much is a real problem. It's not just the seals that you have to worry about. It's a much bigger problem than that. When the oil is overfilled, there is too much oil down in the oil pan. As the crankshaft is spinning rapidly, it is hitting this oil down in the oil pan. This whips the oil in to a foam. Foams contain air. Air is not a good lubricant. The oil should be picked up down in the pan and sprayed over vital engine parts by the oil pump. You don't want any air sprayed over these parts; just pure oil. Take the car back to Wal-mart and ask to speak to the auto department manager. Make him aware of the problem and have them lower the oil level to the proper amount. A tad above the full line will not be a problem. An inch above the full line can definitely cause a problem.
