Did you check both fuses? There is one that is under the hood next to the battery, and there is another one that is behind the coin dish next to the steering wheel.
A couple of other ideas I have is also, did you make sure that the ground wire was hooked up, and if not did you try and slide it into the frame?
I had a friends Jaguar that had a ground wire that didn't work, but would work when it was screwed in. The ground was completed through the frame and the wire in the car was not attached good enough.
Also simple stuff, if you haven't tried. Make sure you try it when the car is on, in the ACC position, and when you have started the car.
If it is newer stereo perhaps you have installed an optional satellite receiver, try unhooking that, and if there is a reset button, try pressing and holding that.
If the radio has a fuse check to see if that is blown. Did one of your speaker wires get crossed on the harness?
You might be able to test the car stereo with a 12 volt DC adapter. Just hook up the Red and yellow wires to positive and the black wire to negative to see if that works.
