4th Generation 1997 Camry V6 XLE 14in rims?

I bought a set of winter tires on 14in rims that came off a 1996 Camry LE. I have a 1997 Camry V6 XLE. I currently have the 15in stock rims with all seasons. The winter tires are on 14x5.5 rims (the tires match the manual specs for 14in tires). I called the dealership and confirmed I had the right rim and tire sizes.

Problem, winter rims/tires fit perfect on the rear, no problem. Can't get them on the front. The bolt pattern lines up perfect, but it seems to be hitting the calipers in the front. What's up with this?

just wanted to check as both the manual and dealership indicated that 14x5.5 rims would fit the vehicle. Not sure why they would print and tell people this if it doesn't actually match the vehicle specs.

Yup, V6 has a bigger caliper, and 4 cylinder rims (14") may not fit.

EDIT: maybe the manual addresses both 4cyl and V6 engines...as a sort of generalized statement. If you go to tirerack, the minimum size they will show for the camry is a 15".

The 4 cylinder cars from 1992-1999 came with 14 inch rims and tires. The V6 cars from those years came with 15 inch rims and tires and larger calipers. The 14 inch rims will not work with the V6.

Thanks for the help everyone! Now Im just ticked that the dealership was going to sell 14 inch rims for that vehicle knowing it is a V6. Cheers
