3rd Gen... what is normal temp???

I just picked up a new (to me) 95 wagon 5SFE. I am wondering what the temp gauge needle should read normally. This one sits about a needle's width ABOVE the half way mark. Stays there solid. I even unplugged the cooling fan temp sensor so that both fans stay on to see if that would bring the temp down. No change. It runs fine but just curious where the needle should point.

Thanks

Should be right about in the middle, and not change.

Our's is just a bit above the middle of the range. The ScanGauge reads the temperature as in the high 180's F when warmed up.

Well sounds to me like that is normal then. I used an IR thermometer and surface temp of the upper radiator hose was ~180 while the metal "neck" that the hose attaches to on the engine was closer to 200.

I was just a little concerned as my 2nd gen Camry is slightly below half way mark.

As long as its near the middle I'm willing to bet that the fact that it doesn't change is more important. I think your fine.

Interesting. Mine since I got it always sits about 1/4" down from the half mark and doesn't move. Doesn't matter what time of year it is either.

Probably has something to do with your sending unit not being as accurate as it should be. Mine is always a needle-width below halfway.
