has anyone replaced their gen3.5 2.2l power steering pump, pressure line and rack?

so, title says it all. so, my camry just hit 200k miles and the power steering quit. i took it to my local dealership to have a look and they told me the high pressure line, the pump and the rack were all shot and need to be replaced. to the tune of 2 grand.... which i simply cant justify putting into a car that only blue books for 3k. so, i looked it up online, and i can get these parts for about 300-500 bucks, but, i'm looking for some opinions as to the difficulty of a job like this. i've changed my oil, done my brakes, swapped my suspension in it's entirety and done various other mods to my car myself, so i'm mechanically inclined... basically, is this the kind of thing that is doable in my garage or do i need a lift (obviously that would be easier) ? all help is more than appreciated. thanks in advance guys!

It can be accomplished in the drive way, may take some time but not to bad. If you are into performance also when you do this rack, check out toyheadauto and pick up some poly urethane rack bushings.

awesome, is there anything like bleeding the lines that i'll need to take care of, or anything else funky that goes on during this process? btw thanks for the bushing idea.

The power steering is self bleeding as far as I know since it circulates the fluid thru the reservoir.

Since you are replacing everything, I would just cut the hydraulic lines if that seems easier to speed up the job rather than trying to undo stuck/rusted couplings on the rack if it comes to that.

Take your time to manage your frustration level since I would think the hardest part of the job may be accessing everything in tight spaces and having to remove more than you want to get at everything.

good luck

excellent. is there any other parts i should be aware of that may be needed? as far as i was told it's just the pump itself, the rack and the pressure line, but in my experience there's usually a couple additional little things that drive me crazy with borrowing cars and constant runs to autozone(which i'm trying to avoid if possible...)

becareful when torquing the hard lines and banjo bolt on the pump, as well as make sure that you run the -lines properly and unkinked. And as asg14 said- new copper washers from the dealership.
