Safest Technique: Checking for Spark?

I need to check for a spark in each cylinder to ensure that my ignition coils aren't fried. What is the safest method for doing so on a gen4 4cyl ???

Thanks

Disable Fuel Injection, pull EFI fuse (small fuse) in engine compartment fuse box, behind battery along fender.

Fuel pump will not work as well.
You can use a spark gap tester (simple alligator clip with a adjusting screw to change gap and an end to plug your spark plug wire)

OR

Take spark plug wire off one cylinder. put it onto a good spark plug tha tyou know works (note you do not need to remove any of the existing 4 spark plugs) tie wire or zip tie the test spark plug to the engine lift hook with firing tip facing up to ground it so that the threaded section of spark plug touches that hook.

when you reach in the car to start it with the key, you should be able to lean over and see it spark. Or have someone crank it for you.

Thanks Haj,

Took your advice, got a gap tester for $4 and tested all four plug wires... they fire. All four plugs are relatively new, gapped correctly and in damned good shape.

Back to the drawing board.

EDIT: Just a side note - I pulled the EFI fuse, and could not get a spark. I figured what the hey, if I blow up...its insurance money for the woman...plugged it back in and got a spark.

Hmm...I woulda suggested you lick your finger, touch the diode, and crank the motor.

My my, how clever... did you come up with that all on your own, or did you employ help?

Ohhh wait, let me guess... you got help from my _________ (insert girl, or whatever real witty noun you wish to use).

Didn't know spark plugs had diodes. Ah well, learn something new everyday.
