3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
A couple weeks back, my car started jerking when I shifted from P->D or R->D, and also while accelerating from a dead stop. The jolt seemed to be coming from the passenger side of the car. I checked the dogbone mount, and sure enough, it was FUBAR.
So, I stopped by the Toyota dealer after work last weekend to pick up a new dogbone mount and installed it. For the first couple of days, the engine seemed solid and the jerking while shifting was gone. However, just yesterday, the jerking while shifting out of park came back. There is not much of a jerk when accelerating, however. I checked the dogbone again and it seemed to be in perfect condition.
I had the same thing happen to me. The dog bone is more of an indicator for the condition of the other mounts(at least to me). I replaced the dog bone (with oem replacements) twice in 3 months. I found that my front engine mount had gone, and was allowing the engine to rock back and forth. My mechanic said if the front mount needs to be replaced, I may as well replace the rear engine mount, and trans mount as well to to make sure everything's right. When all the old mounts were pulled, sure enough, they were all bad. The old trans mount was as soft as foam rubber.
It'll cost a bit, but IMHO, you have to replace all the mounts together. They're from the mid 90's, they've got to be worn out by now...

^ I was going to say the front mount too. It goes bad more common then people think. when it went totally dead on my old '92 I4, there was a thinp whenever you hit the gas pedal from a stop and shifting out of park.

go to www.toyotaoemparts.com or something similar and search it up. My tally for front engine mount, rear engine mount, and trans mount came to about $300+. The manual trans mount is more expensive than the auto trans mount. Basically the 4cyl 5spd is more money in general for mounts
I lucked out when the Canadian dollar was on par with US. I should have purchased during the summer.

I looked into ebay mounts, but at the end of the day, I prefer toyota mounts. What goes into those ebay mounts is beyond me, especially the insulators and rubbers. Those can deteriorate quicker than factory stuff. And if it is going to hold my engine and reduce the vibration, Toyota mounts all the way

Just to pass it on to you guys not to buy mounts from oem_parts_plus from ebay. I bought a set of 4 gen3 mounts and all I got were painful jaw buster mounts and their 100% money back guarantee is BS!
Save your $100-$150 and get real Toyota mounts...another lesson learned!...
I hope Toyota cracks down on people selling out of spec bogus parts!..
I agree. I wished I had waited a week, and I would have saw your post about oem_parts_plus. I ordered the same set, and the vibration is worse. I'm gonna put my old mounts back in when I have time.
