What engine sizes/years fit?

Hello Peoples,
I'm super new here. My first post as a matter of fact, so I take the time to doff my hat to all of you guys that have been here for ages helping out and sharing ideas.

I just acquired a 1999 Camry XLE V6 that has a locked engine. Former owned (16yr old girl) NEVER checked her engine oil.

Since I'm very new to this car (been a Mazda guy) I would like to know what engines can fit this car as I plan a swap. The engine in it at the moment is 3.0 V6, can any V6 of gen 3 work too? (don't know if they are 3.0 too)

Any positive information will be welcome as I join you guys in this jolly community. And if you wanna flame my being naive too, go for it. I'll welcome it as long as you support with some good information.

Thanks for your time.

for 1999 - the 3.0 v6 is the choice.. since ur a mazda guy- im inclined to presume u'd like to rock zoom-zoom mentality with this car as well. So find a 5 spd. tranny and ull be plenty happy. If ur more inclined to more power.. maybe a newew version of the 1mz?.. sienna 1mz with a vvti! either way- it'll be faster than the locked engine! lol welcome to the boards.

well i dont really mind which one. All I need is one that fits. I live in Oklahoma and dont think I would be needing strict emission etc.

What are reasonable engine prices for this car. (99 Camry XLE, 3.0 V6)

word of advice though. unless your lookin for a project steer clear of a vvt 1mz. more complicated to swap(or sop weve seen so far), costs more, not that much more power then a last gen non vvt 1mz, like gen1 solara or gen4 camry.

the 1mz from a gen3 will fit but the computer is different and the tranny is slightly different. not to mantion its not a powerful as your current motor...in running condition that is. easiest swap would one from dorman68's little list there.

LOL @ rock zoom-zoom. LOL

I dont mind power, but I considered getting this car because of possible better gas mileage than my Mazda Millenia.

you said 5 speed tranny are you talking about swapping from the stock AT to a manual tranny ? And if I was going to do that, how much modification is needed?

Thanks for the insight here. I appreciate it. I'm hunting for a decent-priced gen 4 1mz now.

does the same apply for the 5S-FE too? Any 90s-ish FWD 5S-FE will fit the gen3/4? Like using a gen4 engine in a 93, etc.

Wondering how much modification is needed to fit a 1MZ-FE from an Avalon, Solara, or Sienna? I found some decent deals but don't want to buy something that would cost me more re-fitting.
Thanks for your input.
