Erratic Idleing - Troubleshooting

Okay, so people told me clean the throttlebody. I think I did just that, but perhaps someone can walk me through this process.

I disconnected the air intake hose off the engine (that is the trottlebody right?) I sprayed silicon lube in there, and wiped it out with a clean rag. It was not very dirty. Did I use the wrong kind of cleaner? Maybe thats not the part you clean out?

This did not really change anything. Is there maybe a sensor located on the exhaust system under the car? I have been driving over ice/snow. Maybe a snow chunk broke some sensor down there - if a sensor does indeed exist down there. Any thoughts? Or did I not clean the throttle body properly?
