Won't start

Have 1992 toyota camry LE 4 cyl 5sfe engine. My son drives car to school, when he goes to start at end of day-motor cranks but won't start. Seems to me either and electrical issue or fuel pump issue. Please help.

An easy check to see if it is fuel related is to get some O2 safe carb cleaner. Remove the big tube going in to the throttle body. Now spray the carb cleaner in to the throttle body. Reinstall the big tube and try to start the car. It won't start, but will probably sputter a bit like it wants to catch and run on the carb cleaner, if fuel delivery is the problem. If not, next you need to check for spark. A simple and safe spark tester is available at most auto parts stores for a few dollars. The parts person can show you how to use it.

update- won't start

Ok, Have determined no spark to spark plug. Replaced rotor, dist cap, coil, igniter- still no spark . Have ECU to try next. also will try the following from another thread.

Not completely clear as to whether you have eliminated spark as the problem.

If you think fuel pump is possibility, the following are relevant.:
...check the 7.5 amp Ignition fuse. ... located in J/B no. 1 ...
under driver side dash panel.
...could also be the EFI Main Relay. Located in J/B no. 2 ... the fuse box under hood, to the right as you raise the hood.
...also, the Circuit Opening Relay controls the current going to the fuel pump. It is located in Relay Box no. 6, behind the glove compartment. ... You might be able to reach it from under the passenger side dash.

All of the above control power going to the fuel pump, as well as other

factors, such as the ECU.

Any other suggestions??

Yes, I see no mention of plug wires in your list. Some times we forget the simply things.

Question Dejavu all over again!! Help yogi!!

Ok,
April 2009 camry wouldn't start. Finally got new distributor after using Ohm meter. Engine started right up. I also replaced timing belt, and oil seals including oil pump and pan. Thanks to write up from this web site complete with photos, Runs Great!! No Oil Leaks.
Flash forward to April 25, 2010- Son is driving car to work - Dies will not start. Getting Spark- Took distributor back and got another-(under warranty- Free) got plug wires, dist cap, rotor and new plugs- No Start- Almost - engine sputtered- close but no cigar. Tried different igniter- no cigar- Have Different ECU (all parts acquired last April) Have yet to try this. Made sure engine was at top dead center on # 1 cylinder when I installed the dist. Rotor was aligned with # 1 spark plug wire on cap when install completed. Timing mark on crankshaft pulley on Zero- Feel confident this was done correctly

Replaced Fuel filter- Old filter was full of gas.

I smell gas when trying to start engine

Is it just April showers that make the camry die or what?? Fuel Pump, Fuel Pressure Regulator are next items to look at.

Any suggestions

I don't know what reading you got last year from your Ohm meter that told you to replace the entire distributor, but I would use your Ohm meter again to see if you are getting the same output that told you that you had a problem then.
