Smile 1mz rod vs. 22r rod ( pictures)

well here are some comparable pictures of the 1mz rods (stock) vs. 22r rods (stock).

both have the same ID ends on them.

big end ( main)= 56mm
small end( pin)= 22mm

the 22r rod is wider on both ends.

22r width= 28mm new mine were 27.82(worn)xxx,xxx miles 1986
1mz width- 21mm new mine were 20.88(worn)76,xxx miles 1997

pins are the same diameter but the 22r pin is much longer due to the fact of the piston dwarfing the 1mz's.

rod caps and the rod on the 1mz look dinky compared to the 22r's, large and ribbed for her pleasure rod. What you can't see is how thick the metal is in between the "ribbed for her pleasure" rib's. the fact is its really thin, even on the cap.

1mz rods look dinky but the metal is thicker. also the end caps are much nicer and a constant thickness all the way around. only down fall is the tiny little bolts going through the cap then threading into the rod. as for the 22r it has manly studs and manly NUTZ to go on the ends of them, to make her go"oohh samarai, please give me more, ohh baby,oh baby."

all in all I'm going with the 1mz rods after I bore the threads out of the rods and go with some arp through bolt and nut style thinging. I feel that machining the 22r rods with just make no difference. good pistons that wont break apart should be good enough. afterall the shouldn'd break unless it has no guide(piston) and just bangs into the side of the block. enough words here are pictures.
