3rd Generation Strange Thing when WOT

When I decide to go WOT I sometimes feel as if there is a drop in the rpms or a loss of power for an instant before the car takes off. Is this normal or is it something else. I was thinking maybe a delay in fuel delivery.

thats normal ... your car is probably downshifting from 4th to 3rd, and the automatic tranny is a bit laggy when you go WOT all of a sudden

even when it doesnt downshift, there will still be somewhat of a delay from the instant you go WOT to when the engine starts increasing rpms - because the engine itself, along with the ECU, takes a few milliseconds to account for the change in air intake

Even from like 5 mph it seems to happen so I wouldnt blame to tranny, but im going to try to recreate the scenario when I get a chance

well yeah, like i said even if the transmission doesnt have to shift gears there will be some "lag" .... just the nature of these engines, they arent exactly performance oriented so they arent setup to handle an instant change of air flow from a small volume to an infinitely larger volume within a split second

id say if its taking excess of 2 seconds, there might be a problem - maybe make a video of it if youre that concerned, although if you search for the videos i posted from when i installed my Weapon-R Short Ram intake, you can hear the lag time on a few of them if i recall

of course i have the 2.2L, and you have the earlier 3.0L but its true for most engines - even on the newer Drive By Wire systems, this problem is exacerbated which is peoples biggest complaint

^ 1MZ is the same. And actually, 1st gear seems to have the biggest lag for me.

And you want bad lag, drive a 2AZ Camry with drive by wire.......I;ve had 2 second lags....
