Exclamation Problem with oil catch tank

Hi dudes,

Last weekend i installed a home made pvc oil catch tank on my car. The intallation is pretty easy to do but i have a little problem. After the installation, i drove the car for like an half of hour and the tank was 1/3 full. The liquid inside is pale yellow colored and have the consistence of water, so not very oily. So i empty the bottle and his morning, I recheck the level, it was again at 1/3 and the liquid have froze because of the cold canadian winter. I can't believe my car drink that much oil because the dipstick reading is always correct. I think this is not prestone too because it was completely frozen this morning.

Any ideas?

What the fuck? Can you please post some pics of your setup AND the liquid. This doesn't make sense.

Sorry I don't have pics of my setup for now but it's similar at this one, same filter (home depot Husky) and hoses. I will try to get some pics of the setup and liquid soon. And I know it make no sense i have to empty the tank every 2-3 days. I wait for a new PCV valve from Toyota dealer, hope it will resolve something!

So you're sticking the catch between the PCV and the throttle body? Sounds like you're condensing the water out of your blowby plus a bit of contamination from the other stuff in the blowby.

Is this supposed to accomplish something useful?

^ It keeps oil oit of the plenum. I have an oil catch can for my front bank. Many people do it. Makes the car run better longer.

Excess oil is caught and collected in the reservoir instead of being routed into the intake tract. Normally for oil vapors. Either bad PCV valve or due to hi-mileage engine was already starting to burn oil.

To reduce the need for throttle body cleanings, I assume (by reducing the amount of easily-condensed crud that would otherwise deposit on the inside of the throttle body)?

So how does one keep the condenser warm enough to prevent water condensation (which, I assume, is what the OP is experiencing)?

Would using some foam insulation for wrapping water pipes help in cold weather conditions? Lengths of 5-6 ft come in various diameters at any hardware store.
