3rd Generation wtf i need help

i have a gen 3 camry and for some reason if i rev it stops a a little over 5000 rpms. when i'm driving if i floor it it also stops there too for a bit before it shifts. What can that be it never did this before?

Is there a check engine light? sounds like the ecu is either in safe mode (doubtful) or your timing is way off.

or the simple solution... maybe the tach is sticking or dying. it's not entirely unheard of... esp if you have gauge face overlays that the needle could be slightly dragging on.

how can i check if it's the timing.....Also if the needle is dragging the engine wouldn't drag...would it?

and the winner is Luckynumber5 i just got it check and the mechanis said it sounds like a tooth is off on the timing belt that it isn't on right

It's an easy fix, if you replace the belt make sure you get a new water pump too
