Recently Ive noticed that the brake light on the dash will pop on during driving. I know this light is for the e-brake and i don't get why it comes on. I hit a pot hole (thank you Massachusetts roads ) not too long ago and it went on and didn't think anything of it. Since then Ive hit bumps and whatnot but not all the time does it come on. It has come on about 2 more times since the first time it did. When it comes on i try putting the e brake on and pushing it back down but it dosent go away. Is there some kind of censor? Maybe the ebrake cable isnt tight enough?

It also indicates that your brake fluid is low. Check your brake fluid and check your brake pads.
My brake light came up while driving as well. I changed the front pads and now the light is off.

Yes, the light comes on when the parking brake is on and also if the brake fluid level is low. Note that the brake fluid level goes down as the pads wear out, so you might also want to check the pads. The fluid level will go up again with new pads since the caliper pistons will be pushed back more.
[sbushnak beat me to it]
but it only goes on when i hit a bump in the road is that normal? i know the breaks need to be changed soon ive put 10k city on them since i bought the car. how often should brakes be changed? and the fluid is up there i believe i checked it not too long ago, ill check it again.
