3rd Generation Trunk light does not come on

Despite my TN name, I actually have a 4 banger 96 Camry LE w/ AT.

I tried removing the light cover and replacing whatever was in there (bulb or glass fuse), however it still does not work. I was told at Auto Zone that the small glass fuse looking thing would work even though it was slightly bigger than what was originally in there (couldn't find anything identical to the original size).

Any help?

Use a volt meter and determine if the light socket is receiving power.

If not check the wiring and the button switch located where the trunk lock on the lid goes into the chassis.

I did not even realize my Camry had a trucnk light until I saw your post. Found the light and I had a dead bulb. The replacement bulb I used was a DE3022.

I opted to pull the light housing and put 12V and ground to the contacts to check for a bad bulb. Multi meter as suggested works fine as well but old fat guys like me don't contort as well as we used to and getting at the connector with a multi meter requires some of that.

You can use this website to determine most of the bulbs for your car:

solution was an OEM bulb from Toyota. what they were giving me at Auto Zone were the wrong size bulbs, however they said it should work anyway... WRONG.
