98 camry, damaged the ring behind oil seal while changing seal
Can any one please help!!!!. 98 Camry 5FSE engine there is a metal ring that goes behind the crank shaft oil seal. This ring has 8 holes in it. I damaged this metal ring and badly bent it while trying to pull out tbe oil seal. Now I am not able to find this item anywhere. Even the Toyota dealer does not have this item listed in their inventory neither it shows on their computer, no one seems to have it or recognize it. I bought a new oil pump to use one from there, but as my luck would have it, the oil pump did not come with it. Does any one have any slightest idea where can I get another one of those rings. My camry is stuck for one lousy ring. Any advise will be greatly appriciated. My direct email is Rockie6@hotmail.com

Reason: Redo the title and some text
I never saw a ring when I did my cranshaft oil seal. None of my manuals reference any such ring. Given that Toyo dealer does not have a listing for it I doubt you need it for seal to seat or function properly. Got a picture?

The only 8 holed ring I can think of on the 5sfe crank assembly is the one that goes under the flywheel bolts. Of course he would have to have the transmission unbolted from engine to see this one. Maybe he is referring to part of the original crank seal that came out in pieces? Should only be the seal shell and a spring keeping tension on the seal surface to crank. There is no other ring under the seal itself. If he is mistakenly referring to the oil pump shaft seal as the crank seal, I can still recall no such 8-holed ring under that seal either. Is just the pump lobe shaft going through the pump housing.
Thank you for your response. This ring goes behind the oil seal on the crank shaft, in between the shaft seal and the oil pump housing, has more like L shape. I did take pictures of this part but I dont know how to attach pictures here.
Note: when I try to attach pictures, it asks for URL. The pictures are in my computer and I can email to any kind patron here.

It goes right behind the crank shaft oil seal, its L shaped.

Sounds like the metal backup ring the rubber seal is bonded to. Seal must have been wedged in pretty tight. You'd better check that you didn't damage the block surface that the new crank seal will seat against, or the end of the crankshaft for that matter. If you did the new seal might leak around the the outside of the seal ring.
