Can't get no SE info!

Hi, everyone!

When I try to post a search function and put in SE, the Search rejects it stating that "SE" is too short. ???

Does anyone have a fix on that?

Oh and how the heck do i disable the green underlined links that attach themselves to some of my words? That's infuriating!!

3rd Generation

Well, what people have said about these SE's, (their SE's) and all the differences, and how these improved the car. A loooong time ago, I posted what I knew to be different -- saw an later thread started by you where it was found that the steering ratio's different.

Now, I'm thinking about replacing the top front strut mounts, and according to the Toyota Parts list, these have a unique part number. The rear struts are different OE number also (!) So, what makes these SE strut mounts different??? Maybe better????

Thanks,
Tedders

well for the strut mounts ive never used SE specific stuff.

92-93 SE differances...stiffer springs, larger rear sway bar, 5 speed, slightly better bolstered seats, different door pannels, DX like rear pannel and mirrors...pretty sure thats about it.

Also aluminum alloy rims, a unique part number for the SE; larger tire size, rear suspension tricked up: different stoppers and rear mounting cushions, different rear springs and struts, Drum/rotor rear brakes. The front upper strut mounts are different, too. And since the SE was a V6, the front coils springs are different than the LE or LEX 4 cylinder.

...And that sexy rear spoiler!

So many differences... That's why I wanna know!

the struts are the same as the XLE ones. the, interior trim, 5 speed, steering ratio, dual 5 spoke wheels, springs and rear sway bar are the only SE specific parts...despite what a stealership tells ya. also, spoiler is the same, brakes are no different then any other gen3 V6, tires are the same as any of the V6s, struts mounts are again the same.

Better than an XLE

Naw; checking the Toyota Parts list for the 92 - 96 Camry, the rear struts and rear springs are a different part # than the XLE, (now the Japanese Sports package has a completely different set of rear springs! Wonder what they're like!!) The spoiler came stock with the SE; ditto the alloy rims, and I've heard that the rear discs were also standard; too, I've heard the manual trannie's set up differently, and the owner's manual states that the SE came with larger tires. The front strut mounts are a different part number than any other mounts (p 936, top left column of the parts manual).

LOTS of goodies to make the SE FUN!

And there may be more....

na i ment the bolsters on the seats them selves. they seem to go before anything else on the SE front seats.

glad you found info on it, but i can tell you...despite what the part numbers say. i have owned and worked on both...first hand and they are the same dampening between XLE and SE shocks(given, this is on a 94 SE). so if ya have to buy OEM ones...save your money if there is a price difference(aftermarket ones would be cheaper anyways). i can also be 100% sure the springs are different front and back on the SE...not just the back. rear discs is a V6 standard. toyota offered 2 tire sizes...195 for the 14" and 205 for the 15", the 205s actually had a lower aspect ratio because of the wider tread IIRC. thats the only differance in sizes for any gen3. cant speak for the "sport" but in some places the sport is the same as the SE here in the US.

now im not to versed on the manual since my version SE only came with an auto but im sure its the same tranny as was avalible in the ES300 5 speed. definatly agree its a fun camry.

toyota really didnt make the SE too much different then its siblings. springs, sway bar and trannies were about all they did thats special. that interior is pretty cool too.
