'93 Cam Tokico Drama

Ok so I am beginning to get a little upset here. Long story short, I bought the Tokico Hp's from Suspension Max on ebay. The guy that "runs" operation there called and asked whether my struts were sealed or cartridge type. Well I took the lazy route and did some research (ahem) which stated that all '92-'93 Cams had the serviceable struts so I needed the cartridge type Tokico's. I got them the other day, went to put them in and realized that mine are NOT SERVICEABLE. Ok so I get Shawn on the horn at Suspension Max and tell him that I need to return the cartridges and exchange them for the sealed type. Now get this. He says that Tokico does not make a sealed type strut for the '92-'94 Camry!!! Huh? "Are you sure?", I asked. "Oh yeah im absolutely possitive. I am looking in the Tokico catalog right now", he says. So now im ready to reach through the phone and wipe my a** with Shawns tongue. I know I have seen the sealed type with the blue lower mount to spindle on a gen 3 here. Am I right? Then he tried pushing some KYB's on me saying that they were the performance equal to the Tokico's.

hmm

The below link reads that the '95 sealed will work on my '93.. Someone should really make a post of this in the READ FIRST section. Would save a lot of grief and frustrating threads.

well most people ask anyways. the only reason you dont have them is because thoes on your car are not what the car came with...sealed and servicable fit on both gen3 and 3.5. send them back and get sealed ones from another seller. the only reason NOT to get sealed complete shocks is if you want to save a few bucks and dont mind a little extra work.

hmm

Well I'd wager that the ones on my ride are OEM. Mostly because "TOYOTA Gas Filled Strut DO NOT OPEN" is stamped into the strut body.

My 92 2.2 came from factory with sealed struts. Frenum all you gotta do is buy some used struts from a salvage yard and put ur tokico inserts in them, that's what I did.

how do ya know? cuz this has been subject of debate for some time. many parts departments list only sealed struts because they fit the same and were less hassle to replace(more money for customers, less hassle for dealers). maby its a 4cyl thing? not real sure.

3rd Generation

Just buy the full 95 96 strut, not the cartridge. That's the easiest hassle free way to go about it
