Two questions.
1. Is it hard to remove the bolts of the egr? I think I will clean mine soon.
2. Did this valve have gasket on the mounting flange? If yes, what is the price range.

Thank you, good pictures!
1) The bolts on the EGR are not bad to remove IF you first soak them with some PBblaster for an hour or two before attempting removal.
2. Yes the valve did have a thin gasket. It was cheap like 3 bucks or something at Autozone.
3. You'll notice I removed the valve with the pipe attached. I did that because the replacement used one I bought for 20 bucks had the pipe attached and the actual valve looks heat fused to the pipe so it was easier to do it as one piece.
4. A new valve was like $200 so I just got a clean used one. The dealer will bend you over for big bucks to install a new one. Clean your old one with some Seafoam Deep Creep. I just happened to be buying a bunch of parts from a guy on Ebay who was parting his car out after a wreck so I got it as part of the deal.
How many miles were on the car when it was this carboned up? Also, what symptoms were you having with this amount of carbon?
Mike
The car had about 225k on it when the cel light came on. code p0401
It was running ok, just a little sluggish, kinda like it couldn't breath properly(in hindsight). I thought it was just high mileage. I replaced the vsv first, then the EGR valve, modulator and pcv valve for extra grins, runs mighty fine now, idles much smoother too. I also Seafoamed it.
We talk about EGRs on this site all the time, I thought folks would like to see what a clogged one looks like. I looked on this site to figure out what the problem was so I'm just showing others what can happen.
How did you remove the EGR inlet tube? By this I mean did you get it from underneath the car or the top? What kind of wrench did you use? (Box, flare nut, crowfoot, etc.) I can get my box wrench on the nut, but there is no room to turn the darn thing.
Thanks.

As I recall, there was a brace that needed to be removed first. Yes it was removed from the bottom, it was a bitch to get out, sorry, I don't remember what wrench...
