3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I got two free batteries yesterday and I would really like to use both for my audio system, the problem is weight. I already have a speaker box that is about 90LB and two subs adding about 70LB right over the rear wheels, and the batteries weigh about 130LB each. They will require a custom box replacing the spare tire well that will add even more weight.
With just the box, one sub, and one of the batteries in the trunk my car (96 Camry IL4) sags and handles poorly wanting to push out the rear in corners. It already has a tendency to over steer mid corner if I let off the throttle, even without the batteries, so it's time to upgrade.
The real problem is, who the **** does this to a Camry? Well I do, but no one else does so after market parts are really hard to find. Does anyone know where I could find struts (preferably adjustable), springs that don't lower the car, and a stiff swaybar with bushings? I know that the Camry shares a lot of parts with other Toyotas and a few Lexus but I don't know what will fit. If I could also get struts that don't hang over the tires I would do all four so I could fit 15's on it without getting thinner tires.
you dont need them extra batteries, sell them get a high output alternator =P and why dose your sub box weigh so much mine is only about 40lbs its 5/8 thick mdf and its for 2 12" and each 12inch sub is only 11 lbs

I already have a 300amp alternator in addition to the stock alt in a dual alt bracket and four runs of 0/1 wire, so the batteries are the last step.
And this might help explain things a bit better,
I forgot I also have three layers of dynamat extreme in each door and tar pad + two layers of chopped mat on the floor adding quite a bit of weight as well.
That is why I posted this thread, I'm not looking for the normal performance struts because I absolutely can't drop the car any because of the added weight.
all i have to say is wtf. how many watts rms is the amp your running. and btw there is no need to run 4 runs of 0/1 gauge unless your amp is over 3,000 watts rms. witch i highly doubt. each 0/1 gauge wire will carry 3000 watts rms them subs together cant be over 2,000 combined. do you have any experience in car audio? lol

The subs are rated at 1500rms but can take close to 2k for short bursts, and I'm running the subs on two Sundown Audio SAZ-1500.1's and will soon have two more amps for the front components, in total I will be running around 3600W rms before I add rear fill. And just so you know the four runs are not because I need them thermally, it is to reduce voltage drop, two of the runs are grounds.
you dont need 2 more amps for the font speakers..... and i hope your grounds arent longer than 3ft =P
I would only use one amp for the fronts but I am going to be running the front components three way active to give myself a bit more control.
My grounds are not longer than three feet because I am not running the grounds to the chassis, I will be running them to the batteries in the trunk, which in turn are grounded to the case of the 300amp alternator by the two return runs of 0/1. My car has two separated electrical systems, the stock one which I left alone except for some beefed up grounds, and the system for the audio and other accessories.
I know you are only trying to help but this thread was really to get help with my suspension, not my stereo. I think I shouldn't have mentioned why I have added so much weight to my car.
