3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So i decided to take apart my power antenna today to see what the problem was. I finally broke it down to certain point and found a plastic gear that had its teeth chewed off by the worm gear that drives it. Here are some pics below to show you guys what I'm talking about.
reference pic to show you guys where we're looking on the antenna. problem gear circled in green.
zoomed in a bit. problem gear in green. the point where the worm gear attaches to the problem gear is boxed in red.
with the problem gear removed and the center post that the gear sits on in place.
another angle with the center post in.
center post removed. red arrow shows the worm gear location.
So my question is, where can i find a replacement gear like that one? Hopefully you guys can help me out.

Hell!! I have an entire motor, but it needs a mast!...(three of them actually), but why don't ya just do the S2000 conversion and be done with it!
would you be willing to mail me the gear?
the reason i don't wanna switch it to the s2k antenna is because that gear is like a $0.02 part. save my cash for something else. i just need to know where to find one of those gears...

Can you clean up that gear and post a pic, with diameter, thickness, and pin/post size. I have several antennas in various states of disrepair, one of them may have this gear. None of them are Toyota, several aftermarket and Mazda units, but there are only a few designs out there and those gears tend to be common. Otherwise, check your local junkyard, no one buys these and they can be had for pennies. Helps to buy something else worth a bit at the same time, and ask if they'd mind 'throwing in' this 'old antenna'. I'm with you - save the beast if you can. I'd also recommend stripping it all down, use parts washer to get everything clean, re-grease, and re-assemble. I posted to another thread recently on what wires to use to bench check the antenna.

will do, i appreciate it. they'll be up in an hour or so.

24 teeth (check my counting!) smaller gear has 13 or 14 teeth i think.
largest part of the inner circle in approx 8mm
inner hole where the shaft goes is approx 3mm
shaft is approx 25mm long (but it doesn't need to be replaced)
just shy of 3mm thick.
slides in and out easily.
and thats it. note that the bigger gear has pitched teeth and the lower gear doesn't.
lemme know if you need any other pics!

Just a bump to see if anyone has one of these gears. I forgot to check my junk pile, will do so this afternoon and post back.
Edit: I found a gear like yours and measured the following:
1. diameter of large gear, with 24 pitched teeth: 20.5mm
2. Diameter of small gear, 12 straight teeth: 11.1mm
3. Overall height or width (your pic 3): about 17.3mm
4. Height/width of small gear: about 11.3mm
5. Height/width of large gear: about 6mm
One difference is the indentation around the end of the large gear, clear in pics 4 - 7 and pic 10. Mine is flat across. I don't think that matters, it's just a casting difference. The shaft hole on mine is about 3mm.
From your last pic, I counted 12 teeth on the smaller gear. Put a marker dot on one tooth, then count around to verify. Looks like your larger gear is as you noted 24 teeth too.

PM me if you are interested in arranging for me to send it.
