92 Camry exhaust rattle

Last week one day, when I started my Camry, I kept hearing this loud rattling sound coming from under the rear seat. I knew it had something to do with the exhaust. It got quieter as the car warmed up but when I accelerated, it came back pretty steady.

I looked under the car and inspected all along the exhaust system and came across this metal shield that was resting on top of the tailpipe. It appeared to have rusted at the attachment point on the side closer to the fuel tank and came down on the pipe.

Is this a heat shield of some sort? I've used a bungee cord to hold it up for the time being..Is there a way to resecure this? New weld or bolt that can be attached..

I've searched for a replacement part..Haven't came across it yet..would like the description of it..Thanks

Last year I lost the shield over the gas tank too. I dont replace it, just throw it in the garbage. I don't really got any problem with that. And this afternoon, wahat a coicidence, the one over the cat fall when I was on the freeway. It made I terrible rattling. If the plate is not too rusty you can to drill a hole and attach it with steel wire to the attachment point in the frame, or if the plate is in bad condition just remove it from your car.

ah yes gotta love them heat plates I don't think they cost too much at the dealership surprisingly. You might want to explore that option...if it's too expensive I don't think it would do any hram in just removing the rusted out plate

hmm

Just run a couple of short self tapping screws through the shield and into the underside. This will hold it up.
