Vibrating/Pulsating when braking

Hi Guys,

Need a help/opinion on my problem. I have a V6 1993 XLE. Changed the rotor 4 months ago because it was vibrating under braking - felt on the steering wheel. I also changed the engine mount. That reduced the problem. But then when I replaced the front pads last week (I did not replace it then), the problem resurfaced. The mechanics told me that they have cut the rotor and checked it - it was fine, there is no problem with the hub either - they say. But the vibration is still there. Now they say, it may be due to the strut mount and the engine mount (which is now torn up) and told me to replace both to see whether the vibration under braking will disappear. I will do that this Wednesday.

I am getting frustrated with these explanations and all the money that I have spent ( more than $250 now).

Any advice from you guys here?

Appreciate it.

Thanks.

You said you changed THE rotor. Did you change both front rotors? (I'm assuming it's the front rotors, because they are the ones that usually warp.) Did the mechanic check both front rotors for runout? Usually, but not always, both front rotors warp at or around the same time, because they are usually exposed to the same amount of heat.

Hi Mike,

I changed both front rotors 4 months ago. Last week I changed the pads because it was due. And the vibration came back, even after the rotors were cut (advised by the mechanics). Now they are saying when the engine vibrates (mounts worn), every time I brake, there will be vibration. So now they are telling me to replace the engine mounts (both the lower part and the strut mont).

Thanks.

My Camry had the same symptoms. Turned out to be the wheel bearings. If you do the work yourself, it's about $100 per side. Here's a DIY thread I posted:
