shock upgrade

Hi, just went to mechanic and he say my shocks are leaking and need to replace. Anyone know a reliable brand to replace it with? Do I also need to replace the strut at the same time? He told me strut and shocks are the same, I'm a little confused. Suggestion anyone?

Shocks and struts perform the same job, but are not the same configuration. A shock is pretty much a stand alone part. A strut combines a shock and spring in one complete unit.

As far as brand, what are you looking for from your car? Do you want better handling, or do you want to keep it pretty much stock? If you want perfomance, go with Tokicos. They're alot firmer than OEM, so you'll loose some comfort, but your car will handle alot better. For a slight upgrade from the stock struts, go with KYB GR-2 struts. They are just a little bit firmer than the OEM struts for an increase in handling, but still have a good amount of OEM comfort.

KYB's are just OEM replacements. Tokico HP's are only a little bit firmer than stock shocks.

I would get the Tokicos because they come with a sweet lifetime warranty!

Just that alone would enough to warrant the extra cost IMO.
