A piece of bling surrounded by.....56k warning pics

Polished valve covers look great but when they are all alone on an ugly engine they seem sad.

why didnt you clean the engine bay before hand?

what steps did you do to get the valve cover polished?

Not oily. Just a lot of corroded parts being 16+ years old....

the rest of that stuff can be cleaned ... trust me

i gave myself about 3 hrs at a time, and did it on the weekends, until my engine bay was clean to my satisfaction .... takes a lot of cleaning chemical (of your choice, i used Engine Brite), sandpaper where needed, and towels

Yes im lazy. i work too damn hard.

Nice, did you guys use a Clearcoat or Wax to protect the shine?

Mine is a true mirror polish and so with a little maintenance it will stay shiny. I chose not to clear coat mine because if you have ever seen polished and clear coated rims they look like crap if any moisture gets under the clear and I would have to strip the whole piece just to polish it again. Just an occaisional touch-up with some jewelers paste will keep it bright.

i haven't actually finished the valve cover polish yet. i want to maybe try to acid bath my plenum to make it shine a little more. i like the texture of the outside plus it is functional (texture dissipates heat) i ended up getting lazy and since it was late when i i was doing it i just threw it back on the car and snapped some pictures. so no i haven't had a chance to finish or polish it yet. What i was thinking of doing is getting a Dremel tool and hit all the crevices and then using the buffer like the nail salons use to buff nails and use a very fine buffing compound for car paint and see how that works. if it looks good then i won't seal it but i will use something like turtle wax. Also the guy that posted the really shiny cover is actually not the valve cover itself it is just an applique. you can buy the piece and it will go over the original valve cover thats why the rest of the engine looks so ...um.....distinctive. Mine i actually removed and sanded the aluminum cover and reinstalled cover. notice how the plugs on the other sit so deep into the cover (i know it is 4 banger on his!) and then notice mine. my ignition coils are flush with everything plus notice the bolts are actually exposed not like the other 4 banger one.....Just wanted to clarify ....

UM excuse me? my valve cover is certainly not an applique!!!! That is a genuine mirror polished 5SFE cover!!!! I ground down the original ridges on the top, hit the whole thing with a high speed die grinder and scotch brite wheels, hand sanded on four different levels of sand paper grit, then 3 different levels of polishing bar and one final hit with a buffer and some finishing paste. LOL thats why I get $160 USD for them and suddenly there is a waiting list.... I am also doing 5SFE intake plenums in the same fashion but port matching them at the same time. You should not speak of things you know nothing about. You hit your cover with some 1500 grit, run out of patience and call it good, then bad mouth mine?????!!!!!!! Why I ougghta!!!!!!!!!! The 5SFE valve cover is held on by large nuts the thread onto the spark plug hole wells. That is why you see no bolts. Oh man I am actually getting a little pissed. His whole last post is BS.

frenum49 - why is there a junkyard marking on the intake manifold? (unless the yellow numbers arent from that and are something else.) just curious.

3rd Generation

Haha typical V6'er comment! Us 5s-fe guys may have a lil' less displacement but don't get it twisted!

We spend our money is the right spots and you guys betta' watch out

Also- Frenum, that is a pro job man, when I start spending on cosmetic pieces, a chromed-out engine bay would look real sick
