Master Key for 2001 Camry!

Hi, today I went down to the body shop to pick up my Camry after it had an accident. While they were fixing the body they had lost my key and had to replace it. They bought a genuine Toyota "master key" and then programmed it and made it all work fine and dandy, but did not program the remote fob.

So I asked them to print out the instructions on the remote fob so I could program it right there. That seemed to work properly, but now none of my keys will start the car now!

All I hear is rapid clicking when I try to start the car using all 3 of my master keys and all the valet keys as well.

So my question is, is it possible that I have deleted every single master key and valet key from the ECM!? If not, what else could cause an engine to not turn over?

this is just a thought, maybe your starter motor died... about a year back, i had that problem, the car wouldnt start, kept clicking when i tried to start. replaced the starter motor and it started.

also, i didnt know gen 4 camrys came with chipped keys... at least none of my keys are chipped, but then again, my gen4 has an aftermarket remote installed...

rapid clicking means dead battery. happens all the time at body shops because they leave a door off without disconnecting the batt, or weld on the car with the batt still connected, frying it. make them give you a new battery.

and you're right - afaik, gen4's don't have transponder keys.

My owners manual for my 2000 camry talked about keys with chips in them. Mine doesn't have this, but it was probably for the security system.

The gen 4 did indeed have chipped keys on certain models I believe. Probably V6 and XLE models, at least in the US. The OP will know if his/her keys are chipped if the valet key is a rubberized gray color. If not, the valet key is a regular metal key.

OP - have your battery checked and if it's good, it might be the engine immobilizer kicking in and disabling the starter..
