Hey guys. I'm looking to put in a security system in my Camry. Posting again here in the gen 3 forum just to see if anyone has done this before. Op is here: Viper 5601 and 508D help, 96 Camry I'm also planning on putting together a DIY from my install.

the install is what will kill the wallot. its usually about the same or more theh the cost of the system for a pro to do it. that being said its a very time consuming install depending on features. was worth the money for me to just have a pro do it and it worked out great.
personally ive found the BEST security system is removing and keeping valuable things out of your vehicle. i left my faceplace in my car just once and it was broken into...ever since then ive kept all valuables at LEAST out of sight and left no reason to risk breaking into the car(knock on wood).
thanks for the reply. i should have been more clear. yes- I do remove the faceplate and scanguage head unit and keep valuables out of view. But I do have some rather pricey stuff hard-wired into my car (scanner, cb-radio, scangaugeII etc). So here's the story for you guys:
My camry was broken into one night around christmas time. I lost my ipod, which was in the glovebox and a gps unit which was in the trunk. I was PISSED. Anyways, later that week, my dad's SUV was broken into. The car alarm did go off, but he didnt check on it. it was a windy snowy night i think. ahah. anyways, his SUV didnt have any of his stuff stolen out of it...and he had a nice set of tools in the back too in plain view. they did manage to screw up the wiring in the driver's door trying to break in though.
Anyways, i'd just like the extra layer of security. How hard is to self-install? I'm talented as far as electronics go. I was making basic battery and motor circuits out of kits when i was 8 years old. it's just removing interior panels mounting sensors and splicing wires, right?

well, i went and bought a system and i'm gonna do a self install. hopefully everything will get here soon! i bought the Python 872 which is made by the same parent company as Viper...DEI. I also got the 506T glass break sensor and the 508D zone proximity sensor. check 'em out....cool stuff. cant wait to start a DIY for anyone that wannts to do a security or remote starter install.

heres the wire colors + locations for an alarm install + remote start
Constant 12V+White Ignition Switch Harness
Starter Black/White Ignition Switch Harness
Ignition Black/Orange Ignition Switch Harness
Accessory Black/Yellow Ignition Switch Harness
Tach Black/Red (AC) Coil
Brake Switch Green/White Brake Switch or White Connector at Fuse Panel
Trunk Pin Red/White (-) Trunk Light
Parking Lights Green Below Fuse Panel White Connector
Head Lamp Red/Yellow (-) Steering Column
Door Trigger Red/White (-) Below Fuse Panel White Connector
Door Lock Light Green

let me know if u need pics
thanks! bigggggg help being more specific than any other wiring diagrams i've seen. question about the Tach hookup. I know it;s an AC circuit instead of DC like it normal is on a car. and i don't know where it is exactly. also, you mention the location of the trunk light wire right? "Trunk Pin Red/White (-) Trunk Light". the trunk release on a gen3.5 is mechanical right? i'd need a solenoid to make it work, right?
Also... anyone recommend a install location for the main unit and glass break sensor? i'm going to be putting the zone sensor in the center counsel right above the SRS controller...i assume thats what it's called.

i almost positive that you need a solenoid..
but once you connect the trunk wire it would show a trigger zone on the alarm pager (if you have one) that the trunk was open
i didnt install a glass sensor.. so i adjusted the shock sensor to sensitive

thanks man! any info on the tachometer hookup though?
i do believe this system has the "tach-less" feature, but i'd like to know how to hook it up the traditional way, just in case.
