USA Success With Neutral Safety Switch

Was having trouble with my back up lights going, and staying on, without wiggling the shifter, on my 1994 Camry LE V-6. I found the Toyota Nation Website, joined, (I'm a new member) did a search on the NSS, and found a post on removing, and cleaning the switch, complete with pics. A couple of hours time, and $2.50 for some dielectric grease, and success! I saved a couple of hundred bucks by doing it myself. All I can say is that this is a wealth of info for Toyota owners, and do it yourself wrenchers. Very happy!

Was this the thread that helped you?

Removing and cleaning the Neutral Start Switch

Have a daughters car being towed home, because of this recurrent problem, with not starting, but being able to after a jiggle of the Shifter.

Will by some dielectric. Is dielectric to conduct electricity or insulate? Does one use a little after cleaning and only on the surface of contacts?

Thanks.

Dielectric grease keeps moisture and other corrosive agents away from your contacts, while allowing the contacts to conduct electricity. Many manufacturers use it in their lightbulb sockets to prevent them from corroding. Yes, you put it on the contact surfaces.
