3rd Generation Rear 02 sensor harness

1998 Toyota Camry 5f-SE 2.2l CAL emissions

The CEL is p0136 - Sensor 1 Bank 2. If this code is the rear 02 sensor, how do you plug in the harness through the body inside the car ? Does the passenger seat have to be removed from the car to plug sensor?

The connector is under the driver's seat. Just pull the carpet back from around the floor heating duct for the rear seat and you will see it. If you are looking at the Toyota technical service manual, I know it says it's under the passenger seat, but the manual is wrong in this case.

I would also advise you to tie a piece of mechanics wire or some heavy twine to the connector before you pull it through to the bottom of the car. Leave the piece long enough so that a good portion remains inside the passenger compartment, after pulling it through to the bottom of the car. Then unscrew the sensor from it's bung in the exhaust. Screw in the new sensor and then tie the string to the electrical connector of the new sensor. Then pull the electrical connector back inside the passenger comparment and reconnect it. This will save you a lot of time and aggravation.

I see the heat duct but I when I pull back the carpet it feels like its going to rip. where is the best place to pull back carpet ? does the trim have to taken off?

Does the driver's seat have to be removed to get to the plug? its awfully tight in there

I did not have to remove anything to get to the plug. Try to run your fingers underneath the carpet and around the duct. You should be able to feel the plug, if not see it.
