FYI - Air pressure should be checked when the tires are cold for accurate readings. What I do is to check the air pressure at home and if I need to add air, I pump it up at home before I drive the car anywhere.
An air pump like this works just fine. I've been using the one like this for my bicycle for the last 15 years. It takes me about 10 "pumps" to raise 1 PSI for a tire (205/60R16) , so it's not fast, but you get some exercise out of it too
You can get these pumps for really cheap at places like Target, Wal-Mart, etc...
While you are at it, make sure to check the air pressure in the spare.
