Whenever I turn left very sharply I get this weird screeching/grinding metallic noise from the right side of the car. I have to turn very sharply to hear it, and it is pretty loud. For example if I am making a U-turn turning left it's there, however on normal turns it's not. If I make the same turn right it's not there. I think it's actually coming from the rear wheel, but I am not 100% sure.

Anyways, it sounds pretty nasty so I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be? I got a 97 V6 with 190,000 miles.

Are you sure it's screeching not clicking? Because if it's clicking, the major suspect is the CV joint.

I got the same problem on my 1997 rav4, when I make big curve left turn, the noise sound came from passenger side. There is no noise when I make right turn. Have you fix your car yet?

I have found a fix for my car. I took off the rotor and pads for an inspection because I though the rotor might be rubbing up against something. However I saw no abnormal wear marks on the rotor. When I put everything back on the noises were gone.

The only thing odd that I noticed was a bent metal clip. The clip that sits between the pads and the calipers. I couldn't put the rotor back on because part of it was bent and in the way. So I bent the clip back to the correct shape. Although I might have bent the clip while taking off the pads.

I should also mention that when I was taking everything off the wheel didn't want to spin easily. When I put everything back on the wheel was spinning very easily. Maybe it's possible that the brake pad wasn't sticking to the caliper piston, and was constantly contacting the rotor? I don't know.

So in short I am still not sure what the source of the noise was, but it's gone now.

A sticking caliper or anchor pins?
