Caption on the Camry is this:
This is the car which drove a stake through the hears of Holden and Ford with all of their big six and V8 might, and which set Toyota on course for dominance of the white-goods-on-wheels market in Australia.
The front-wheel drive Camry was introduced in 1987, but its interior size limitations were obvious. The 'wide-bodied' car arrived in February 1993, produced at a cost of $140 million in tooling at a new plant at Altona, near Melbourne.
It was never a thrilling drive in either its 2.2-litre four-cylinder or 3.0-litre V6 forms, but t was certainly competent. It had been extensively tested in Australia, and was
tough, quiet, comfortable and had predictable handling. it was outstandingly reliable.
It might not have ben exciting, but Toyota wasn,t backward in its promition, converting a warehouse on Sydney Harbour to house a theatre production for its introduction. Although the car still wasn't as roomy as the rival Commodores and Falcons, it won over the buying public and the fleet buyers with its quality and economy.
so there you have it. because of the double 12 misprint, you could either see it as being 10th or 9th. Im puzzled though as to why they havnt added some other cars that i swear should have been there. eg. not one skyline was ever mentioned, nor was any utes or maybe even a corolla.
