Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
anyway,
I bought a 2000 toyota solara sle 2 dr coupe. a trd edition.
I believe that the owner before me just cut the suspension to make the car lower. It has a full body kit, and aftermarket rims, however, very small bumps on the road make the car scrape or hit the bottom. the back left wheel also makes a strange noise. any idea what i could do?
coilovers are stiffer than the spring/shocks setup but you can adjust the ride height to your liking.
the spring/shock setup can run about $400 or more where as coilovers can cost $1200. if you go with the spring/shock setup it is highly recommended you replace BOTH springs and shocks. if you just replace the springs to save costs, your shocks will wear out and your car will start bouncing.
Coilovers are the most expensive option, but if it is performance you are looking for they are your best option.
They offer the stiffest ride you will have on suspension, and as mentioned you can adjust the ride height and even toe and camber on some to your liking.
Coilovers come fully built as your whole suspension unit at each wheel, so won't need anything additional after you install 'em.
The only thing I would highly reccomend is an upgraded rear sway bar shortly before, during, or after the install of your other suspension components.
Depend on the condition of the struts, busted or not. It's also not recommended to use stock strut with for lowering purpose as it will wear out faster. Another option is air bag, not cheaper though, but universal fit, and quality is out of question.
